Top Ways to Stay Safe on the Go

Updated on June 1, 2018

If you’re heading out on a big trip, or if you’re heading out on a shorter trip and are someone who isn’t currently in the very best health, then it’s very important to take every precaution to stay safe. When we’re away from our natural environment and the things we’re familiar with, smaller inconveniences can become more serious issues.

Here are some ways to stay safe on the go.

GPS Tracking

If you’re heading off on an adventure, then it’s always important to let people know where you’re going. Even if you’re perfectly fit and healthy and even if you’re confident – it never hurts.

But better than giving someone a rough location, is to let them know precisely where you will be via a GPS system. The great news is that you can get GPS tracking apps that will let friends and family see where you are – no need for an expensive investment!

Back Up Phone

Bringing a back-up phone is another very good idea. This way you can still get in touch with people if you need to – even if your things get stolen or damaged. Ideally, keep a smaller, older device in a separate compartment where it is unlikely to go missing.

Medical Alert Systems

If you have reached a certain stage in life where your family friends have started ‘calling in on you’ to make sure you’re okay, then you might be considering a medical alert system. These are devices that provide fast and convenient communication with emergency medical services in case of a fall, accident or attack of any kind.

Maybe you’re not at that point yet, but if you’re planning on a big trip that is pushing the limits of your current health – then suddenly a medical alert system makes a lot more sense.

But do you really need such a device? And how do you know when the time is right? Read on and we’ll attempt to answer that question.

Do You Need One? Does it Matter?

The big mistake that many people make is to wait until they need a medical alert system to get one. In reality, it makes much more sense to get a device before you need it, as you never know when you might suffer an attack or a fall and it’s better not to wait until you do. That’s a little like waiting until your house is robbed to get house insurance!

Like so many things, it is far preferable to have a medical alert system (which these days will be very small and discreet) and not need one, than it is to need one and not have one.

And when travelling, this makes even more sense – as you will be a lot more at risk at this point being in an unfamiliar territory.

It’s Not Just About You

The other thing to bear in mind is that people are worried about you. Even if you aren’t personally scared for your own safety, if you suspect other people might be then that alone is enough reason to get one. Think back to people you’ve known who you worried about, how much of a load off your mind would it have been for you if they had gotten a device like this? Telling people ‘not to worry’ doesn’t mean they won’t and making no effort to put their mind at ease is definitely an example of misplaced pride.

If you’re setting off on a long trip and your health isn’t great, then of course people are going to worry. And this is one way you can help them to worry just that little bit less. There are a few different devices on the market that will do just this, so check out the link and we’ll let you know which is best.
