What to Expect From A Hair Transplant Procedure

Updated on October 5, 2021

If you are considering a hair transplant, be it a FUE or FUT, there are numerous factors you should consider. Whether you are opting for the cheaper, yet equally effective option of a hair transplant in Istanbul, or a hair transplant anywhere else internationally, the rules will generally stay roughly the same. Follow this guide, and you can find out what exactly to expect from a hair transplant procedure.

How Much Does a Hair Transplant Cost?

In the UK, you can expect to pay up to £30,000 for a hair transplant, but if you look elsewhere, in locations such as Turkey, the price will be hugely cheaper. The price will differ depending on the quality of the procedure you are receiving, the chosen clinic, and the team behind the procedure.

Who is Eligible for a Hair Transplant?

Hair transplants are suitable for any man or woman with permanent baldness. This may not be suitable for individuals with specific types of hair loss, such as alopecia, as the results will not be permanent. If you are considering a hair transplant, contact a qualified physician who can advise you upon your next steps.

Hair Transplant Recovery

Following a hair transplant, it is important to understand what the recovery process will entail. Usually, you will be able to return to work roughly 3 days following your procedure.

You must take care following your procedure, especially within the first 2 weeks following the hair transplant. Exercise should be avoided, along with any other strenuous activities. This is because the grafts will not be secure, meaning the risk of damage and unwanted scarring is increased.

2 weeks following your procedure is when your stitched can be removed, with the transplanted hair beginning to fall out within the week that follows. Slowly but surely, hair will then begin to grow back. New hair should begin to appear within 6 months, with the full results becoming evident within 12 – 18 months.

Hair Transplant Side Effects

These can include:

  • A swollen scalp, which is potentially tight or itchy.
  • Scabbing on the impacted area.
  • Scarring, spanning from one scar to multiple small scars.

Although this procedure is deemed safe, when correct precautions are adhered to, there are some risks. Any area that is operated upon is susceptible to bleeding, infection, or a reaction to anaesthetic. These are all easily treatable ailments, so there is nothing to worry too much about in this respect.

If you experience any of the above following your hair transplant procedure, consult with your surgeon immediately and they will be able to advise you with the next steps to take. Following your procedure, any reputable clinic will provide you with an aftercare plan, tailored to you, that you should stick to for the best possible results.

If you’re not happy with the results, speak with your surgeon and you will be able to find a resolve to your issue, and hopefully you will be able to attain the new head of hair that you desire.
