What do you see when you look through the mirror? Admittedly, it can be scary to hit a certain age, but if you take care of yourself, age will be a factor that will not bother you at all. The only thing that should be on your mind in your golden years is living your best life. First, beauty starts from the mind and intentionally making healthy lifestyle choices. Here are general beauty tips for seniors to enhance their beauty:

Protect Your Skin from the Sun

We all need vitamin D nourishment from the sun, but too much sun exposure can cause over-tanning, dark spots, wrinkled skin. Harmful UV rays can also cause severe health conditions like skin cancer and impaired vision.

If you want to get some sun, do it early in the morning and late in the evening when the sun is not too harsh. However, if you find yourself exposed to the sun more often, you can protect yourself by using sunscreens with an SPF value of 30 with both moisturizing and antioxidant blends. You can also wear light but protective clothing to protect your skin from the sun. These include; sunglasses with UV protection, long-sleeved clothing and pants, and a wide-brimmed hat.

Above all, ensure that you use natural skincare products. Harsh products only add more skin conditions and ruin your skin’s natural luster, making you look older.

Exercise Regularly

Exercise has the necessary hormones that keep you happy, energized, and relaxed. Furthermore, exercise helps in skin cleansing, and it enhances smooth blood flow to skin cells, giving that vibrant and nourished look. It will also keep your posture in the right state, thus boosting the much-needed confidence even as you age.

Designated at least 30 minutes each day within the week to work out and see yourself age gracefully. If you’ve never engaged in any physical activity before, consult your physician to see what your body can handle. Then, you can plan workouts that easily fit into your schedule and do not feel like a chore.

Additionally, make your water bottle your ‘friend’ and hydrate your body accordingly. Lastly, ensure that you stay away from processed foods and let your diet lean more towards fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy oils. All these measures protect your immune system, making you look youthful.

Address and Avoid Bad Habits

Bad actions slowly build into habits that are hard to overcome. Unfortunately, your dependency on them may keep you from noticing the dull and pale effects on your overall look. The bright side of it is that overcoming addictions is achievable if you put your mind to it and ask for help.

Numerous support groups handle addiction cases involving smoking, drinking, hard drugs, etc. If you have been struggling with any of these, joining such support groups shows you that you are not alone. They help you overcome your addictions easily, knowing that you’re doing it together.

Be Spontaneous

When was the last time you changed your hairstyle or found a new fashion style? Tweaking a little bit of your usual style also makes other people around you eager to see you. For once, break from the stigma and visit a medical spa to see if you can fix body insecurities that you’ve had for a long time.

Try a new hairstyle or dye your hair to a lighter shade that makes you look younger. Don’t forget to get rid of the items you haven’t worn in a while and add new pieces of clothing that break from your usual style. Additionally, don’t forget to pamper yourself once in a while and try out new hobbies.

Do Regular Dental Checkups

Once in a while, you’ll come across people with teeth discoloration. It’s hard to forget them, and you can’t help but get distracted by their teeth while you converse. If you are concerned about the color of your teeth, talk to your dentist. You may just need a regular cleaning to make sure that your teeth are healthy, but you may also consider a teeth whitening procedure.

Let them give you the best recommendation on the best teeth whiteners and floss that do not damage your enamel. Also, as you work on your diet, incorporate more calcium-rich foods to maintain your teeth.

Get Enough Sleep

Have you noticed stubborn dark circles or puffy bags around your eyes? These are caused by poor sleeping habits, which eventually translate to your skin by making it look pale and wrinkled. A good night’s sleep will restore your skin’s elasticity and give you a more youthful appearance. You should also make sure that your sheets and pillowcases are clean. While you sleep, oils from your skin get on your linens and cause skin problems like clogged pores.

If you have dark circles under your eyes, you can get rid of them by placing cold tea bags or cucumber slices on your eyes for about 10 minutes on repeated days until they disappear. Also, stick to a regular sleep routine to maintain a natural glow.

As you can see, maintaining your beauty is not difficult. If you have any unusual skin problems, don’t hesitate to visit a dermatologist for guidance. Most of all, don’t forget to show off that smile and make it your trademark.
