Role modeling a la Taylor Swift

Updated on January 8, 2025

That lady is a true phenomenon in so many ways.  An entire page couldn’t list all the positive changes she makes wherever she goes.  From donating to food banks in every city around the world where she performed, to visiting children in hospitals, to treating those who work for her with not only praise and appreciation, but with incredibly generous bonuses.

But it’s her songs that are her true gift to us. She writes about her own vulnerability when growing up, showing her fans that one bad day, or month, or even years, does not have to derail anyone if they can believe that rejection doesn’t last forever.

It’s this last accolade that I want to expand upon to those with young children and grandchildren who may be going through some tough times at school.

I collect wise words that resonate with feelings that both the young and old share.  Looking at them recently, I realized that every one of them could have been spoken by Taylor herself as a means of encouraging our youth not to give up on themselves.

Here they are.  I hope you share them with those youngsters you love.

  • If you want the rainbow, you have to put up with the rain.
  • Everything will be OK in the end.  If it’s not OK, it’s not the end.
  • Don’t change yourself so that other people will like you.  Be yourself so that the right people will love you.
  • Falling down is an accident.  Getting up is a choice
  • Don’t compare your life to others.  There’s no comparison between the sun and the moon.  They each shine when it’s their time.
  • Behind every strong person, there is a story that gave them no choice.
  • You can’t wait until life isn’t hard anymore before you decide to be happy.
  • A perfect life is made up of a lifetime of imperfect days.
  • And my favorite is this one, for those who feel such despair for having friends desert you:

There comes a point in your life when you realize

-who matters

-who never did

-who won’t anymore

-who always will

So don’t worry about people from your past.  There is a reason why they didn’t make it to your future.

Please – share with those who may be suffering far more than we realize.  They will make them think.

Also, I bet they would make Taylor smile.
