This is what students are taught to do if they suspect imminent danger from one of their classmates. It’s too bad that our elected officials and those closest to the ones in power never got the memo on this.
Both parties bear tremendous responsibility for not speaking up from the beginning when they realized that their president was not able or willing to serve and protect our citizens and our country. The result of their silence cannot be overemphasized because the fate of our future was sealed by their unwillingness to bear witness and speak out to what they knew to be a truth that didn’t match their rhetoric.
Excepting Liz Cheney and Adam Kinsinger who lost not only their careers but their sense of safety, no one else in their party came forth to speak truth to power. In the case of Donald Trump, it wasn’t so much as keeping unpleasant truths from the electorate – since he himself bared his soul for all to see – as it was for those who knew him best to publicly come forth and admit that he was unfit to lead us into the 21st century. It’s unconscionable that republicans couldn’t say out loud what everyone saw – an assault on our capitol and on our constitutional requirement to count the electoral votes for an election that everyone knew was not stolen but simply lost.
In the case of Joe Biden, the deception was just as bad. The argument that because Biden beat Trump once, he could do it again made no sense. No one who competes in any way with an opponent feels a guarantee that they can do it again. It’s a hope, not a given.
The signs were obvious to those in Biden’s inner circle that he was a much-diminished candidate than he was in 2020. After the debate when democrats wondered who the hell was running our country, it’s a certainty that those closest to Biden had to have wondered the same thing. Other than Jill Biden, can you imagine another wife with her husband’s much increased cognitive and physical decline, feeling confident that he could run the planet’s most powerful country for another 4 months, much less another four years?
Democrats in his close circle who knew how weakened Biden was, nevertheless supported him due either to job security or a sense of loyalty. But loyalty to whom? To one man or to 340 million other Americans?
There’s no other way to put it – those voting in both parties have been had. And if those on either side of the aisle in Congress really think about this, both ended up getting what they all deserved.
Unless, of course, they decide to write a book and admit their failings in a best-seller tell-all.
Stay tuned. In a world where there aren’t any guarantees, this prophecy is a sure thing.
