Five ways to ease those recurring aches and pains

Updated on April 8, 2020

As the years roll on, it is normal to find yourself struggling to do the things you have taken for granted. Getting out of bed, sitting down and returning to a standing position, getting into and out of the bath, the list is endless. Fear not; it isn’t all doom and gloom. Continue reading for five ways in which you can ease those daily aches and pains, making everyday life that bit more comfortable.

Exercise regularly

Your aches and pains may make you feel as though you want to slow down but doing so will only add further inflame the problem. Exercising regularly is great for your fitness, both physically and mentally. Whether it is a daily walk or taking part in a regular exercise class specifically aimed at the more mature client, raising your heart rate keeps you feeling fitter, healthier and happier. Exercise keeps your blood circulating efficiently, which ensures your joints healthy and takes the pressure off your joints and bones.

RICE

If you do suffer from repetitive strain injury, for example, tennis elbow, the RICE technique can be effective. RICE stands for rest, ice, compression and elevation. It is also worth taking an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen to ease the pain. As with all pain, if it does not feel normal to you, be sure to seek advice from a professional.

TENS machine

A TENS (or transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) machine is often used as a simple way of easing pain during the early stages of labor. However, it is certainly something that can be used to relieve lower back pain, for example, in non-pregnant people too. The machine emits a mild electrical current through leads which are connected to electrodes which are attached to sticky pads that you position carefully on your skin. The settings allow you to increase and decrease the intensity of the current easily.

Cannabis

The use of cannabis for medicinal purposes is on the rise across the world with older people becoming more likely to try it as a remedy for pain. Although frowned upon by some, the use of this drug has been well documented in easing pain. Whether you are looking for something like LA weed deliveries or CBD oil, there are plenty of options available to you. Be sure to speak to someone who knows the ins and outs before making a decision.

Balanced diet

It will come as no surprise to you that carrying excess weight puts extra pressure on your body. Therefore, a balanced diet is imperative. Losing a little weight if you are in the overweight or obese category can make a vast difference. Although it can be challenging to cut back on treats, reducing the number you have in your home can help or choosing just one small thing each day will make you appreciate them more. Plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables can offer you the vitamins and minerals you need to keep your body healthy. Don’t forget the calcium too as that will support you to keep your bones strong.
